Farmers, consultants, technicians and others involved in crop irrigation are invited to a brainstorming session to discuss generating incentives for water conservation. Texas A&M AgriLife Research will host the free workshop, the Rio Grande Valley Agricultural Conservation Workshop, Aug. 20 in Weslaco.
Water reservoirs have not been at full capacity since January 2011.
One possible incentive could be to reward larger water allocations to growers who use more efficient irrigation systems. Input is needed from growers and other experts to exchange ideas on incentives and how to make them viable, according to AgriLife Today.
Water conservation strategies, growing season weather forecast, a panel discussion by irrigation district manager and growers, onion and watermelon plot demonstration and an irrigation water demonstration also will be included in the workshop.
