The American Farm Bureau Federation for Agriculture is now accepting applications for White-Reinhardt scholarships.
The White-Reinhardt Scholarship provides funds to cover travel expenses for teachers and ag literacy volunteers to attend the 2024 National Ag in the Classroom Conference in Salt Lake City, Utah, June 24-27, 2024.
“The annual conference is filled with wonderful, hands-on learning opportunities that equip educators with tools to incorporate agriculture into their classroom in a variety of ways. Everyone who attends is sure to leave with new ideas and industry connections,” Jordan Bartels, Texas Farm Bureau associate director of Organization Division, Educational Outreach, said.
The scholarships are for full-time educators and volunteers who actively participate in classroom agricultural literacy programs or events.
Applicants must demonstrate through past programs an ability to create innovative outreach programs to teach students about food, fiber and fuel.
Applicants must also explain how information learned at the National Ag in the Classroom Conference will be used and why agricultural literacy is an important part of formal classroom learning.
“The White-Reinhardt scholarship allows teachers an opportunity to receive funding assistance to attend the premier Ag in the Classroom conference in the country,” Bartels said. “The cost to attend the conference is certainly a consideration for teachers, but this scholarship opens doors that might not otherwise be feasible financially.”
Preference will be given to those educators and volunteer educators who have not previously received scholarships.
The White-Reinhardt Fund for Education is a special project of the Foundation in cooperation with the AFB Women’s Leadership Committee. It was established to honor two former chairs of that committee, Berta White and Linda Reinhardt, who were leaders in the national effort to improve agricultural literacy.
Each application will be sent to your State Farm Bureau Agricultural Literacy Coordinator for approval. The Foundation will be responsible for sending your application. Your State Coordinator will also be required to fill out a recommendation form which will need to be submitted to foundation@fb.org in order for you to qualify.
Applications must be submitted by Dec. 1.
Recipients will be announced by late December.
White-Reinhardt scholarships are valued at $1,200, plus registration costs.
