Texas teachers will get to the science of agriculture in Texas Farm Bureau (TFB)-hosted workshops this summer. Held across the state, the workshops offer teachers practical experience in agricultural-related concepts, and they can take away curriculum for use in their classroom.

“The workshops help bring agriculture into science, language arts, social studies, math and more,” TFB Director of Educational Outreach Jett Mason said. “Today’s students are often three or four generations removed from the farm, and this allows them to have a better understanding of where their food, fiber and fuel come from.”

For more than 20 years, the workshops have helped teachers make the connection with agriculture through science, providing them with innovative techniques to incorporate the subject in their curriculum.

“These workshops are science-based,” Mason said. “Teachers get the opportunity to better understand agriculture through hands-on learning. They’re able to take that information back to their classrooms.”

The curriculum is aligned with Texas teaching standards to help teachers better incorporate material in the classroom.

Teachers also receive up to seven continuing professional education units in addition to the resource material.

“Teachers can grow their professional network by connecting with other teachers in the area and by building relationships with others in agriculture,” Mason said.

This summer’s workshops will be held at the following locations:

• June 18—Texarkana
• June 20—Temple
• June 21—College Station
