More than 30 college students competed in the Texas Collegiate Farm Bureau Quiz Bowl.
The inaugural quiz bowl took place at the 91st Texas Farm Bureau (TFB) Annual Meeting in Round Rock.
The competition allows college students to showcase their teamwork and knowledge of Farm Bureau, agriculture and Texas. Designed as a motivational and educational tool, the quiz bowl encourages critical thinking, quick decision-making and cooperation in a competitive, yet friendly, environment.
“The quiz bowl engages teams with various question formats, including one-on-one, toss-up and bonus questions,” McKenna Bush, TFB Youth Outreach coordinator, said. “These questions test a wide range of skills from observation and reasoning to communication and poise. The contest serves as a fun way for students to develop project knowledge, personal growth and leadership abilities.”
Each team member must be an active member of a chartered Texas Collegiate Farm Bureau chapter and adhere to rigorous team selection and training processes. Each chapter can be represented by up to two teams.
The tournament had a double-elimination format that ensured a robust and fair competition, while also fostering resilience and strategic thinking among the collegiate contestants.
“Teams competed head-to-head providing healthy, high-energy competition, encouraging them to grow while under pressure,” Bush said. “I am proud of each team as they embraced the quiz bowl, competed in a cooperative and congenial manner, and learned more about Texas Farm Bureau, their state and most importantly, agriculture.”
West Texas A&M Collegiate Farm Bureau took home the championship and was awarded $3,000 to support the chapter’s agricultural advocacy efforts on their campus and in their community.
The runner-up was the Texas A&M Collegiate Farm Bureau team. They received a $2,000 prize.
