In the spring, Texas students can once again visit farms and ranches from their classrooms through Texas Farm Bureau’s (TFB) Farm From School program.

The program is open to kindergarten through twelfth grade classrooms.

Farm From School gives students a front-row seat to the many faces of Texas agriculture through live, virtual visits with local farmers and ranchers.

“The goal is to bring agriculture to life for students who may never set foot on a farm,” said Carson Read, Texas Farm Bureau education coordinator. “By connecting directly with farmers, students can see how science, technology and hard work come together to grow the food and resources we all rely on.”

Each session spotlights a different Texas farmer or rancher and focuses on a specific crop, showing students how food, fiber and fuel move from the field to their everyday lives.

“So many young people today are several generations removed from agriculture,” Read said. “Farm From School helps bridge that gap. When students see and hear from real farmers, they begin to understand that agriculture isn’t just part of our past, it’s shaping their future.”

Farm From School continues to be a popular resource for public, private and homeschool educators who want to connect classroom lessons to real-world learning.

This spring semester marks the eleventh semester of the program at the K-5 level and the second for grades 6-12.

The free program is open to public, private and homeschool educators in Texas. All participating teachers must sign up individually for their classroom.

Student questions are encouraged and can be submitted via the Q&A function on the Zoom platform.

Teachers in grades K-5 will receive free student activity booklets and TEKS-aligned lessons for the monthly virtual visits from February through May.

Grades 6-12 will participate in virtual visits in February and May and receive TEKS-aligned lesson plans and other relevant resources.

Sign up closes Jan. 12.
