Hurricane Harvey brought unprecedented rainfall and flooding to a large region of the Lone Star State.
As cleanup efforts, recovery and rebuilding continue, AgriSafe Network encourages farmers, ranchers and landowners to be aware of potential risk factors.
To raise awareness, AgriSafe Network is hosting a webinar, Safe and Healthy Recovery after Farm Floods, Thursday, Sept. 14, from noon to 1:15 p.m.
Click here to register for the webinar. There is a limited space of only 200 attendees.
Disaster recovery can be as dangerous as the disaster itself, especially if no disaster preparedness plan was implemented, according to AgriSafe Network.
Floods can heighten the risk of health threats, such as mold, tetanus bacteria, contaminated well water, heat illness and high stress. This is especially true on farms and ranches where inherent farm hazards such as machinery and equipment, livestock and agricultural chemicals are displaced and co-mingle, putting all emergency response personnel, farm workers and family members in danger.
The online presentation will identify common human health risks faced during a flood, as well as highlight basic precautions to prevent possible diseases and injuries during and after flooding. In addition, the webinar will focus on resources available to farmers and ranchers to address human health risks during a farm flood.
