The South experienced unseasonably cold temperatures and a wintry mix of freezing rain, sleet and snow during the past week, according to U.S. Drought Monitor.

The recent precipitation has led to minor improvements in the state’s areas of severe drought and moderate drought.

Currently, 43 percent of the Lone Star State is in moderate to exceptional drought, compared to a year ago with 67 percent of the state in same drought status.

Rainfall accumulations in Texas totaled near-to-above normal precipitation during the past 60 days, leading to slight increases in reservoir conditions.
