To help slow the spread of disease across the nation, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) will require reporting of Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea Virus (PEDv) and Swine Delta Coronavirus. This is the latest action taken by the agency to enhance the biosecurity and health of the U.S. swine herd, while maintaining movement of pigs in the U.S.
Tracking movements of pigs, vehicles and other equipment leaving affected premises also will require reporting, according to an agency news release. The USDA is working with state and federal partners and swine associations to increase assistance to farmers who have experienced PEDv outbreaks.
PEDv only affects pigs and does not pose a risk to people, nor is it a food safety issue.
