U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is funding the release of wasps that could help Texas citrus growers.
A bacterium transmitted by insects called the Asian Citrus Psyllids causes Huanglongbing (HLB), or Citrus Greening. There is no cure and eradication is almost impossible.
Research in Texas and California found one of the most effective control measures against Citrus Greening has been the introduction of biological predators of the psyllids, a tiny wasp found in Pakistan, the Tamarixia radiate, according to the Southwest Farm Press.
Citrus Greening is a disease that nearly devastated the citrus industry in Florida in recent years and has spread to Texas and California over the last three years.
