The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) is now accepting applications through the Agricultural Water Conservation Grants Program.
Up to $632,000 in financial assistance is available to eligible political subdivisions for sharing of agricultural water conservation equipment.
“We are focusing in on the equipment cost share and we have expanded the types of equipment that will be eligible,” Kathleen Jackson, member of the TWDB, said in an interview with the Texas Farm Bureau Radio Network.
Equipment designed to monitor irrigation water use, implement irrigation scheduling and/or improve upon irrigation efficiency is eligible for assistance.
Examples include soil moisture monitoring devices, remote management of irrigation systems, telemetry, supervisory control and data acquisition, weather stations and meters.
The assistance is limited to 50 percent of the cost of the equipment.
She noted more than $100 million in grants and loans have been provided since the program’s inception.
“Over the last five years, the ag conservation project has saved over 193,000 acre-feet of water. So, it’s a very successful program,” Jackson said.
Eligible political subdivisions have until noon May 10 to submit applications, which can be found on TWDB’s website.
