The Texas Ag Today morning show and podcast, produced by the Texas Farm Bureau Radio Network, is reaching a broader audience through a partnership with KTRH 740 AM, a 50,000-watt talk radio station based in Houston.
KTRH’s signal covers more than 102,000 square miles across southeast Texas, reaching roughly 9 million people.
As the fourth-largest city in the nation, Houston and its surrounding suburbs are home to more than 7 million residents—many of whom are not directly involved in agriculture.
“This is a great opportunity for Texas Farm Bureau to tell the story of agriculture to the non-farm public,” Carey Martin, Texas Farm Bureau Radio Network manager, said. “The KTRH signal reaches millions of nonfarm consumers, and that’s a tremendous opportunity for us to share how food, fiber and fuel are produced.”
The station contacted the Texas Farm Bureau Radio Network about featuring its farm content during the early-morning hours on Sundays.
“In a city that big, there are a lot of people listening during that Sunday morning time slot. It leads into a very popular lawn and garden show they air at 6 a.m., so that brings listeners to us,” Martin said.
The network’s Texas Ag Today program airs from 5:00 to 5:30 a.m. and repeats from 5:30 to 6:00 a.m.
“It’s also a great promotional tool for Texas Farm Bureau,” Martin said. “We mention Texas Farm Bureau throughout the show, so that’s a lot of free publicity for the organization.”
The Texas Farm Bureau Radio Network produces farm programming for 145 radio stations across the state, helping bridge the gap between Texas farmers, ranchers and urban audiences.
Listeners can subscribe to Texas Ag Today on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher and TuneIn.
