Two Texas Farm Bureau members were appointed to the Cattlemen’s Beef Promotion and Research Board.
U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue announced the appointment of Jason Peeler, of Floresville, and Michael White, of Vernon, to the board for three-year terms.
White joins the board after spending the previous six years on Texas Farm Bureau’s state board of directors, where he also served as vice president from 2015-2017.
“The Cattlemen’s Beef Board works to build demand for beef by helping to maintain and expand markets through their research, promotion, and information sharing efforts,” Perdue said in a statement. “Their work represents all segments of the beef industry, and I know that the agricultural sector will be well served by them.”
Perdue appointed the new members from a pool of nominations submitted by certified nominating organizations. Each organization represents beef and dairy producers in each state or region. Texas is one of 37 states to be represented on the board.
Peeler and White are two of 27 appointed members, with their terms running from 2018 to 2021. They will join fellow Texas Farm Bureau members Charlie Price of Oakwood, Steven J. Mafrige of Tilden, Charles Risinger of Terrell, Brian Malaer of Harwood, Tim R. Pennell of Westhortt, Don Smith of Sulphur Springs and Dave Edmiston of Brady. Edmiston is also a past state director of Texas Farm Bureau.
The Cattlemen’s Beef Promotion and Research Board is responsible for the annual budget for the national beef checkoff-funded programs.
The 99-member board was formed by the Beef Promotion and Research Act of 1985. All board members are beef producers or importers of cattle, beef or beef products.
