The Texas FFA Association announced the selection of the 2023 Texas Farm Bureau (TFB) scholarship recipients during the 95th annual Texas FFA State Convention in Fort Worth this week.
Windsor Godfrey, who served as Texas FFA’s state president over the last year, received a $6,000 scholarship, and Bryce Fisher, the Texas FFA first vice president, was awarded a $4,000 scholarship.
“We’re proud of these two young individuals and how they represented agriculture and their communities as a state FFA officer,” McKenna Bush, TFB Youth Outreach coordinator, said. “These scholarships are an acknowledgment of their dedication to agriculture, and we wish them the best in their future endeavors.”
Godfrey plans to attend West Texas A&M University to study agricultural education and plans to become an agricultural science teacher.
She graduated from Bryson ISD where she was active in her FFA chapter. She participated in senior creed speaking, public relations and poultry judging.
Godfrey also competed in several sports and student organizations.
“Receiving this scholarship from Farm Bureau is a huge honor, and I’m extremely grateful,” Godfrey said. “Farm Bureau is a strong supporter of FFA members and agriculture, and I want to do my part to help grow future agricultural leaders by working with the next generation of students.”
Fisher graduated from Florence ISD and plans to attend Texas A&M University and double major in animal science and agricultural economics. He plans to attend law school after graduating with his bachelor’s degree.
“I hope to have an internship with the United Nations to work in international ag development policy. My goal is to protect agriculture from a policy standpoint,” Fisher said “I definitely want to get involved in ag law and protect the people who feed us every day.”
Fisher was active in his FFA chapter. He showed sheep and participated in speaking, leadership and career development events.
In addition to his FFA activities, he is a Texas 4-H Youth Livestock ambassador and participated in other student organizations.
“I’m excited to see what I can do in college and see what I can do to benefit Texas and American agriculture to live up to the standard that this scholarship has provided,” Fisher said. “I feel very blessed and thankful for the opportunity to have received it. I know there are countless individuals across our state who would be just as thankful as I am. So, I owe it to them and to Texas agriculture to do it good.”
As state leaders of Texas FFA, Godfrey and Fisher traveled the state to visit and encourage students to grow their leadership skills and knowledge of agriculture. Throughout the year, they connected with students, teachers and community leaders, and their visits helped FFA members find their passion and encouraged them to connect with others.
TFB, a corporate sponsor of Texas FFA, provides assistance to the organization through various youth outreach and development programs during the year, as well as a complimentary TFB membership to each FFA chapter in Texas.
