Agricultural science teachers with one to five years of experience in the classroom can now register for a new workshop being offered by Texas Farm Bureau (TFB).

The Early Ag Teacher Professional Development is a two-day workshop that will immerse teachers in hands-on classroom/laboratory instruction focused on areas addressed in an agricultural science classroom, including supervised agricultural experiences (SAEs) and FFA activities.

The free professional development event is set for June 3-4 in Waco.

“TFB believes there is value in investing in ag teachers, and we’re excited about this new model through which we’re going to do that,” said Jordan Bartels, associate director of Organization division, Educational Outreach. “This opportunity will focus on topics that are especially important to ag teachers.”

The workshop will include presentations from agricultural experts who specialize in education, along with site visits to explore agricultural operations in Central Texas. Hands-on experiences that combine agriculture and education will help teachers early in their career with educational content and activities for their classrooms.

“This professional development opportunity is designed to directly address how to facilitate the three-circle model approach, which includes classroom instruction, FFA and SAEs,” Bartels said.

Additional information about TFB contests, programs and other resources will be shared.

Registration closes May 2. The workshop is limited to 40 teachers.
