Although the school year is over, teachers are using the summer to build their skills to improve student learning in the fall.

Texas teachers will get to the science of agriculture in Texas Farm Bureau-hosted workshops this summer. Held across the state, the workshops offer teachers practical experience in agricultural-related concepts and take away curriculum for their classroom.

“The workshops help bring agriculture into science, language arts, social studies and math,” TFB Director of Educational Outreach Mona Oney said. “Today’s students are often three or four generations removed from the farm, and this allows them to have a better understanding of where their food, fiber and fuel come from.”

For nearly 20 years, the workshops have helped teachers make the connection with agriculture through science, providing them with innovative techniques to incorporate the subject in their curriculum.

Teachers also receive seven clock hours of professional development credit in addition to the resource material.

This summer’s workshops will be held at the following locations:

• June 28—Marshall
• June 29—Waxahachie
• July 7—Temple
• July 8—College Station
• July 14—Kerrville
• July 19—Fort Stockton
• July 20—Lubbock
• July 21—Plainview
• July 22—Amarillo
• August 4—Palestine

More workshops may be added throughout the summer.
