An increased risk for the spread of pig diseases—including porcine epidemic diarrhea (PEDv), porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) and influenza—occurs anytime there is congregation of swine. As a result, the Texas Animal Health Commission (TAHC) and Texas Pork Producers Association (TPPA) developed recommendations for swine owners and validation event organizers to help minimize disease exposure.
Prior to validation, owners are encouraged to clean and disinfect trailers, only haul pigs from the same premises and monitor their health. Event validation organizers should maintain appropriate distance between vehicles, limit foot traffic, only have owners enter trailers and disinfect equipment.
