Organic product sales in the United States increased at the fastest rate in five years, the recently released Organic Trade Association (OTA) survey showed. Projected rates over the next two years are expected to remain steady or slightly increase.

Organic food and farming is growing in popularity. Sales increased to $35.1 billion in 2013, up 11.5 percent from the previous year’s 31.5 billion, according to Agri-Pulse.

U.S. farmlands are not being converted to organic farming to meet the demand; therefore, supplies of organic feed and grain are costly and limiting growth in organic dairy and meat markets. OTA reported in 2012 the organic market reached $30 billion and now accounts for more than 4 percent of the $760 billion annual food sales in the U.S.
