A Sugarcane Aphid Field Day will be held on Oct. 28 at the Texas A&M AgriLife Research Center in Weslaco. Sugarcane aphid infestations have caused significant loss of grain sorghum yields and gummed up harvesting equipment for much of Texas in 2014.
The field day will be run from 8:30-10:30 a.m. and will include field tours and updates for farmers on the potential damage created by the sugarcane aphid, reports Southwest Farm Press.
Also, presentations will include chemical and variety trials and viruses transmitted by the aphid. Participants may receive two Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units.
