Fewer parts of Texas are suffering from drought conditions this week, according to the latest drought report from the Texas Water Development Board (TWDB).
Last week, 25 percent of the state was experiencing some type of drought conditions. This week, that number has dropped down to 23.5 percent.
Improving conditions in East Texas contributed to the decline, while increasing dryness in Central Texas and the Rio Grande Valley downstream of Del Rio kept the percentage from pushing further downward.
Reservoirs across the state are faring well with levels at 83 percent, which is still a decrease from last week, but an improvement over normal reservoir levels for this time of year.
With El NiƱo hanging around, TWDB predicts a wetter than normal October, November and December, which could help push the percentage of the state under drought even lower.
