Three county Farm Bureaus were recognized with the Skillet Awards for their outstanding commitment to fight food insecurity through Texas Farm Bureau’s (TFB) Farmers Feeing Families program.

The Skillet Awards highlight county Farm Bureaus that went above and beyond in donating protein, food items and monetary contributions to local food organizations during the 2025 program year.

“The Skillet Awards recognize county Farm Bureaus that are leading the way in the fight against hunger in Texas and making an impact through the Farmers Feeding Families program,” Ryan Yeatts, chair of TFB’s Young Farmer & Rancher (YF&R) Advisory Committee, said.

Johnson County Farm Bureau earned top honors for total pounds of protein donated, contributing 1,500 pounds.

Cass County Farm Bureau was recognized for the highest monetary contribution at $5,005.

Denton County Farm Bureau received the award for the greatest number of items given, totaling 3,300 food items donated.

Each county will receive a TFB branded skillet with their accomplishments.

The Farmers Feeding Families program was launched in 2025 by TFB’s YF&R Advisory Committee to address food insecurity at the local level by connecting farmers and ranchers with food banks, shelters and community aid organizations in their own counties.

Counties can count volunteer hours spent helping with food collection, preparation or distribution, as well as other food or monetary donations made to local food distribution organizations.

“Farmers Feeding Families allows farmers and ranchers to turn their everyday work into direct support to their neighbors in need,” Yeatts said. “The program helps put nutritious food on the tables of those who need it most in our local towns, building stronger and healthier communities one farm, one family and one meal at a time.”

Food insecurity continues to affect communities across Texas. One in six households is considered food insecure, giving the state the second-highest rate of food insecurity in the nation.

The Farmers Feeding Families program was held Jan. 1 through Dec. 31, 2025, and the Skillet Awards were announced at the TFB Presidents’ Conference in Waco in February.
