The Texas Agricultural Land Trust (TALT) is hosting two seminars in March featuring the nation’s top tax expert Stephen J. Small. The seminars will address the struggle facing Texas landowners—passing on the family farm–according to a TALT news release.
The combination of high land prices and burdensome estate taxes is making it difficult for families, even those who have done a significant amount of estate planning, to maintain ownership, said Blair Fitzsimons, TALT chief executive officer. As a result, Texas is losing productive agricultural land and wildlife habitat faster than any other state in the nation.
The half-day seminar will include presentations on the tax benefits of donated conservation easements, appraisals, oil and gas development and land trusts. The seminars are set for March 25 in San Antonio and March 26 in Fort Worth.
