Spring rains in Texas are often unpredictable, making it tough for farmers to plan. And the lingering El Niño weather pattern has some farmers seeing more rainfall than expected.
But Texas rice farmers along the lower Colorado River are pleased with the spring rains, according to Southwest Farm Press.
After years of water struggles as drought took its toll and industry and urbanization spread upriver, rice growers welcomed the rains.
Ron Gertson, an area rice farmer who also chairs the Colorado Water Issues Committee, told Southwest Farm Press that rice is the best option for the area. And he thinks the rains this year provide a ray of hope for Texas rice farmers.
