Voters who went to the polls Tuesday want a much more conservative state government, according to the Amarillo Globe-News.

State Sen. Dan Patrick of Houston defeated three-time incumbent Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst for the Republican party’s nomination. In the race for Texas attorney general, Sen. Ken Paxton of McKinney overcame state Rep. Dan Branch of Dallas.

In the race for state agriculture commissioner, Republican voters chose former state Rep. Sid Miller of Stephenville to be the party’s nominee in the general election. He will face Jim Hogan, who defeated Kinky Friedman, in November.

In November, Patrick will face Democratic Sen. Leticia Van de Putte of San Antonio and Paxton will face Democrat Sam Houston, Libertarian Jamie Balagia and Green Party candidate Jamar Osborne.

The general election will be Nov. 4. For more information on the primary runoff results, visit the Texas Secretary of State’s website or the Texas Tribune.
