Several agricultural issues—COOL, TPA and WOTUS—are on the schedules of both sides of Capitol Hill this week, according to Agri-Pulse.
The country-of-origin labeling (COOL) law is scheduled to come up for a vote in the House of Representatives. The vote is expected to repeal the law, after the World Trade Organization (WTO) said it violates rules and opens U.S. producers to retaliation from trading partners.
The House is also scheduled to vote on the Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) bill. TPA will establish concrete rules for international trade negotiations to help the U.S. deliver strong, high-standard trade agreements for American exports, benefiting better jobs for American workers, farmers, ranchers and entrepreneurs.
The Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works will vote on S 1140, the Federal Water Quality Protection Act. This legislation is supported by American Farm Bureau Federation and will help prevent implementation of the Environmental Protection Agency and Army Corps of Engineers’ final Waters of the U.S. rule (WOTUS).
S 1140 is a bipartisan legislation that will require the EPA and Corps to withdraw the final rule and to adhere to certain limiting principles for any new proposed regulation.
