The Texas A&M University AgriLife Extension Service (AgriLife) will host the Texas Olive Field Day on Aug. 29 in Georgetown with an orchard tour and education program.
Growing and milling olives for oil production will be the focus of the field day. The program will begin with a tour at the Central Texas Olive Ranch at 9 a.m. in Granger. The education program will continue at the Williamson County AgriLife office for presentations from specialists Monte Nesbitt, Jim Kamas and Dr. Larry Stein on site selection, freeze protection, weed control, cotton root rot management and current challenges with olive production in Texas, according to AgriLife Today.
More than 22,000 olive trees on 33 acres are grown at the Central Texas Olive Ranch. It also has an olive oil mill, which will be included in the tour.
