A new children’s book, I LOVE Blueberries!, takes readers on a fun, educational journey about growing blueberries.

The accurate ag book is the latest title from Feeding Minds Press, the American Farm Bureau Foundation for Agriculture’s publishing venture, and is the sequel to I LOVE Strawberries!

Both books are written by Shannon Anderson, an award-winning author and former elementary school teacher.

In this newest release, readers follow Jolie and her new friend Margot as they team up with their classmates and community to set up a hydroponics growing station in their classroom to grow blueberries.

“I wanted to incorporate agriculture as much as possible because I saw how much readers connected with the concept of growing their own food in I LOVE Strawberries!” Anderson said. “In this book, Jolie convinces her teacher to grow blueberries hydroponically.”

Through Jolie’s comical scrapbook-style journal entries and Margot’s creative sketchbook, readers learn about the joys and challenges of growing blueberries with hydroponics, as well as nutritional facts about the snack.

“Teachers or ag in the classroom volunteers could make a hydroponic system, even if it’s out of a five-gallon bucket using a fish tank air filter, to give kids a glimpse into growing food,” she said.

I LOVE Blueberries! encourages curiosity and problem solving, showing young readers they can grow to new heights with the support of friendship and community.

“There are a lot of life lessons that can be learned through a family gardening and growing food,” Anderson said.
