The Farmer Veteran Coalition (FVC) recently announced their national search of Homegrown by Heroes initiative. The coalition has worked for six years to help retired veterans with careers in agriculture. Many of the men and women who proudly served in our country’s military come from America’s rural areas and small towns.
Homegrown by Heroes is a product labeling program allowing farmers, ranchers and fishermen of the U.S. who have served or are currently serving in the Armed Services to use the logo on their agricultural products, according to AgWired. The labeling will help them get into the market and receive recognition for their military service.
Consumers will begin to see the red, white and blue label on food and farm products and on business signage, enabling consumers to select products that support veteran farmers. Thus far, 60 veterans across the country have applied to be part of the initiative. FVC’s goal is to have 500 veteran farmers by the end of the year.
