Effective Sept. 1, 2021, HB 365 amends the Farm Animal Liability Act (FALA) to expand liability protection for routine/customary activities on a farm, handling and managing farm animals, and ranching activities. Employees and independent contractors are included in the liability protection under FALA.

Farm animal professionals, farm and ranch owners, and lessees must post and maintain a sign on the premises with the new statutory language in a clearly visible location on or near the stable, corral, or arena where the farm animal activities are conducted.

Why should child restraint seats be used?

Texas law requires use of child restraint seats for infants and toddlers. Car crashes are the leading cause of death of children for children ages 1 to 13. Most deaths and serious injuries could be prevented if infants and children are protected by safety seats whenever they travel. Adult lap and shoulder belts alone can be dangerous if the child is too small.

Does the child car seat meet required standards?

The seat meets all federal standards and has been approved by the FAA for use on most commercial and general aircraft.

Is a child car seat safer than just holding a child in your lap or in your arms?

Definitely. In a sudden stop or crash, momentum will cause a 20-pound baby to weigh 400 pounds or more. Studies have shown that an adult, even with a safety belt locked in place, cannot safely hold onto a child when this occurs. Further, if you were holding your child on your lap in a frontal crash, the child could be crushed between the car’s dashboard and your own body.
