Farmers and ranchers facing possible changes to crop rotations will soon have an interactive online decision aid tool to utilize for operational activities.

The risk management spreadsheet assists with crop budgets, break-even prices and yields and helps choose optimal crop mixes under limited irrigation, according to AgriLife Today. The new tool includes a limited-input decision calculator, which allows farmers to input water availability, water district restrictions and irrigated acres.

The two-year project is being conducted by a team of AgriLife Extension economists and an AgriLife Research engineer. The Texas Corn Producers Board is funding the project, and an advisory committee of area corn farmers is providing additional input during the development.

Farmers interested in assisting with the testing phase should contact AgriLife Extension Risk Management Specialist DeDe Jones at (806) 677-5600 or DLJones@ag.tamu.edu.
