Following days of negotiations, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) Thursday by 218-208 vote.

In support of TPA, American Farm Bureau Federation President Bob Stallman said the passage brings the U.S. a step closer to completing ambitious trade negotiations around the world by streamlining negotiations and strengthening the country’s position at the bargaining table.

“American farmers and ranchers lead the world in food production thanks to ceaseless hard work and innovation,” Stallman said in a statement. “Expanding access to international markets continues this story of growth and prosperity.”

The Senate could have a final decision on the measure as soon as Wednesday.
