Reports of the new porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDv) outbreaks appear to be dropping. The latest report by the National Animal Health Laboratory Network (NAHLN) shows the number of positive tests for PEDv for the week ended May 10 was 187 cases—the lowest since January.

According to Feedstuffs, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has mandated reporting and tracking of the movement of pigs, vehicles and other equipment leaving affected premises since April 18.

The agency also has objectives to improve biosecurity and herd health and maintain movement of animals across the country by instituting a mandatory reporting program. USDA is still finalizing the structure for the reporting requirements and more information is expected to be available later this month.
