Farm accidents can lead to tragedy. But they can also lead to education.

And as National Farm Safety Week—set for Sept. 20-26—approaches, one agricultural group is making grants available to encourage agricultural safety interventions at the local and regional level.

It’s the third year of the safety grants, which have focused on personal protective equipment, safe play zones for farmworker children and onsite safety training, among other topics. The Agricultural Safety and Health Council of America (ASHCA) will make available about a dozen grants up to $10,000.

“An ideal grant proposal is one that comes from a small company or organization wanting to provide hands-on safety training to ag workers using an evidence-based safety program,” said Leon Graves, ASHCA chair who represents Dairy Farmers of America. “The applicant should show a matched contribution from other sponsors and/or in-kind support from safety consultants or trainers.”

The application deadline is Jan. 7, 2016. For more information on grant eligibility and application instructions, visit www.ashca.org.
