Texas farmers and ranchers impacted by recent flooding—the 35 trillion gallons of rainfall received in May—may be eligible for disaster assistance offered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Farm Service Agency (FSA), according to a USDA news release.
“These widespread, significant rain events in Texas have been deemed by some as, ‘the worst ever,’” said Judith A. Canales, Texas FSA executive director. “As such, many farmers and ranchers are experiencing prevented planting, failed acres, displaced and deceased livestock and property damage.”
FSA disaster assistance and low-interest loan programs include Non-Insured Crop Disaster Assistance Program (NAP); Livestock Indemnity Program (LIP); Tree Assistance Program (TAP); and Emergency Assistance for Livestock, Honeybees, and Farm-Raised Fish Program (ELAP).
