As farmers in the Texas Coastal Bend begin preparing for the 2014 planting season, the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service in Nueces and San Patricio counties will host the Field Crop Symposium to aid in their decision making.

The symposium will be held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 29 in Corpus Christi.

Speakers will discuss pest management issues, including the sugarcane aphid and issues of concern to cotton and grain sorghum growers, according to AgriLife Today. Herbicide resistant weeds, soil fertility management and worker protection standards for agricultural employees are also on the agenda.

Five Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units, as well as Certified Crop Advisors continuing education units, will be available to participants.

A $20 fee, which includes lunch, will be charged. Interested participants must RSVP by Jan. 20 to the Nueces County Extension office at (361) 767-5223.
