There’s good news for Texas citrus growers. Strong markets are waiting for their product this year, according to industry magazine The Packer.
The report indicates demand is high for grapefruit and oranges grown in the Texas Rio Grande Valley.
Quality is good for both.
Rains the area received throughout the year helped the crop to shape up nicely in most areas. Temperatures have also been lower, which also helped the crop.
Although some producers were worried the rains would slow down harvest, it turned out to be a non-issue for many.
The season started strong for Texas citrus and has remained so throughout the year.
Florida wrapping up its season early and California starting theirs early also helped strengthen demand for Texas oranges and grapefruits.
