Low prices, high costs and challenges for 2016 farm decisions were the focus of the annual Red River Crops Conference held in late January in Oklahoma.
Farmers and ranchers from both Texas and Oklahoma heard from economists who didn’t offer bright outlooks for the future.
“No commodity prices look all that good,” Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Economist and Cotton Marketing Specialist John Robinson said.
The conference was designed to provide farmers and ranchers with relevant management information for the Red River production area to help create and enhance their profitability, according to AgriLife Extension officials.
In-season and summer crops, along with effective crop rotation and cover crops, were among the topics discussed. Speakers focused on the economics of transitioning from row crops to livestock production, as well as cotton and livestock markets.
