In college and like to discuss agricultural topics?

Submit your application to participate in this year’s Texas Farm Bureau (TFB) Collegiate Discussion Meet.

The annual contest is set for April 16 in Waco at TFB headquarters. It’s sponsored by TFB’s Young Farmer & Rancher Advisory Committee.

The contest consists of a roundtable discussion of two of the five possible agricultural topics, followed by a final round with the top four or five contestants competing for the prize.

“This event helps college students build basic discussion and critical thinking skills and helps develop an understanding of important agricultural issues facing farmers and ranchers today,” said TFB Director of Organization Programs Coleburn Davis.

The deadline to apply is April 1.

To participate, contestants must be between the ages of 18 and 35, must have a sincere interest in agriculture and be pursuing an undergraduate degree in agriculture or an agriculturally-related field.

And competing has its benefits.

The contest winner will receive a $1,500 cash prize and an expense-paid trip to represent Texas in the American Farm Bureau Federation’s Collegiate Discussion Meet contest in February 2017. A $500 check and traveling trophy will be presented to the contest winner’s university.

The three runners-up will receive a $500 cash award.
