Nominations are being sought for Texas representatives on the Cattlemen’s Beef Promotion and Research Board (CBB).

The CBB’s goal is to maintain and expand domestic and foreign markets and uses for beef and beef products. Under the direction of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS), the board manages investing the $1 per head beef checkoff assessment collected each time cattle are sold in the U.S. and from imported beef, beef products and live cattle.

From 2014 through 2018, the program has enhanced the demand for beef at an estimated rate of return of $11.91 for every assessment dollar invested in the program, according to the latest economic evaluation.

The 101-member board represents 34 states and four geographic units. An additional unit represents importers.

Each year, the U.S. secretary of agriculture appoints one-third of all board members from cattle producers and importers nominated by eligible organizations.

This year, four Texas seats are currently open for a three-year term beginning in 2022 and ending in 2024.

Texas Farm Bureau (TFB) is a certified nominating organization and will accept applications from qualified producers until May 28, 2021. Once applications are received and reviewed, the Texas beef industry caucus of certified nominating organizations will submit the nominees to USDA.

Interested Texas cattle producers must complete Form AD755 and the Agreement To Serve document to be considered. The documents should be submitted to Tracy Tomascik, TFB associate director of Commodity and Regulatory Activities, via email at ttomascik@txfb.org.

If you have questions, contact Tomascik by phone at 254.751.2266.

Nominations are due to USDA by June 6.
