Baylor County Farm Bureau (CFB) recently donated $2,000 to the Seymour Meals on Wheels organization using the Texas Farm Bureau (TFB) Feeding Texas Co-op Contribution Program.
The Feeding Texas program aims to pair food banks and other food-relief entities with local restaurants and caterers to assist those who are in need of food. Through the program, TFB will match county Farm Bureau donations of up to $1,000 for any food-related project.
“Our board got together and decided Meals on Wheels was the best place to donate in our county,” Baylor CFB President James Tucker said. “We try to do help everything we can to help people in our community, and donating funds to help keep food coming to area residents is a worthwhile cause.”
The county organization was grateful TFB was willing to match donations on the local level, he added.
“We made a decision to donate the full amount that TFB would match,” Tucker said. “Right now, the senior citizens’ center where many folks would normally go for lunch is closed, so Meals on Wheels is filling the gap by doing drive-up food to go and delivering more. They can really use all the help they can get.”
Tucker estimated about 500 individuals benefit from the services provided through Meals on Wheels.
“All of our board members are active community leaders, so we see the need, and we know it’s real,” he said. “The coronavirus pandemic has created some real food hardships for many in our community. This grant program is wonderful, because it gives counties an opportunity to help at the local level where they know the need is greatest, and we’re proud to be part of Farm Bureau and to do what we can to help our neighbors.”
