To focus on agriculture and consumer issues facing rural West Texans, the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service is hosting the 2014 Agri-Plex Ag Day March 25 in Ballinger.
The free biennial program will include traditional agricultural and family consumer sciences programs, the Southern Rolling Plains Cotton Growers Association annual meeting, a health fair and will name the Farm Family of the Year and Agribusiness of the Year. Youth scholarships also will be awarded during the event.
The agriculture program will focus on long-range weather forecasting, managing cotton root rot using Top Guard, new technologies available for weed and brush and new apps for livestock and crop farmers. The consumer sciences session, which is held concurrently with the agriculture session, will feature water harvesting in the home landscape, investing and financial exploitation.
As the keynote speaker, Dr. Joe Outlaw, Extension economist in College Station, will speak about the farm bill.
Private pesticide applicators are eligible to earn two Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units.
