The Texas Animal Health Commission (TAHC) has new leadership tasked with protecting the health of livestock and poultry across the state. Governor Abbott announced his appointments this week.
Coleman Locke, a veteran to TAHC and Texas cattle rancher, was named presiding officer and reappointed to the commission for a term set to expire Sept. 6, 2021. A Hungerford native, Locke is president of J.D Hudgins Inc. and manager of the Locke division. He is also a Texas Farm Bureau member.
Jim Eggelston, Steven Selman and Leo Vermedahl are all newly appointed to the commission.
Eggelston, a lawyer who is board certified in farm and ranch real estate law, calls Weatherford, Texas home. Outside of Texas, he is admitted to practice in Ohio and Oklahoma and before the U.S. Supreme Court.
Steven Selman of Woodway has strong ties to the growing Texas poultry sector. He is the corporate production manager for Sanderson Farms and vice president of the Texas Poultry Federation and Affiliates.
Both Eggelston’s and Selman’s terms will expire Sept. 6, 2021.
Leo Vermedahl is a cattleman from Dalhart. He has held numerous leadership positions at state and national levels in beef cattle organizations and notably is a former president of the Texas Cattle Feeders Association.
Vermedahl’s seat expires Sept. 6, 2017.
