Results from the American Farm Bureau Federation’s (AFBF) Semi-Annual Marketbasket Survey show retail egg prices are historically high at $1.98 per dozen. That’s nearly an 8 percent increase from last year, according to AFBF Newsline.

But there will be plenty of eggs available for consumers to fill Easter baskets and for Passover celebrations, because farmers are responding to the market. Egg production has steadily increased during the past few years, with forecasts showing another increase for this year.

Increased egg demand is due in part to the high price of meat items and strong egg exports to Mexico.
