Texas is on track to become the eighth largest oil producer by the end of the year, with potential to surpass Iraq, Kuwait and Mexico in 2014. In October 2013, Texas produced 2.75 billion barrels per day (b/d), the highest rate in more than 30 years.

According to Eagle Ford Shale, the IEA noted U.S. oil production also rose in 2013, growing faster in absolute terms in the last year than any other country in over two decades.

If the current oil boom continues, the U.S. could become the largest oil-producing country in the world.
