A new streamlined crop acreage reporting process is now available to help farmers and ranchers filing cropland acreage and to eliminate redundant reporting.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has been working on this issue since 2009, after farmers and ranchers expressed concerns with providing the same basic information for multiple locations.
Ninety-three percent of all annual reported acres to the Farm Service Agency (FSA) and the Risk Management Agency (RMA) are eligible for the common data reporting, according to the USDA.
“Accuracy in crop reporting is a key component for crop insurance, because an error in this information can affect premiums or claims. This is going to greatly improve efficiencies and reduce mistakes,” RMA Administrator Brandon Willis said in a news release.
