This fall, Texas classrooms from kindergarten through 12th grade can once again connect with farms and ranches through Texas Farm Bureau’s Farm From School program.
The program gives students a front-row seat to Texas agriculture through live, virtual visits with local farmer, rancher or agriculture professional.
“Farm From School gives students a firsthand look at where their food, fiber and fuel come from,” Texas Farm Bureau Education Coordinator Carson Read said. “For many students, this may be their first direct connection to agriculture. Hearing from farmers helps them better understand the work, innovation and stewardship behind the products they use every day.”
Each session features a different Texas farmer, rancher or agriculture professional and highlights a specific commodity, helping students follow the journey from the farm to everyday life while exploring the role agriculture plays in their communities and beyond.
“Agriculture can feel far removed for students who didn’t grow up around it,” Read said. “Farm From School creates opportunities for them to hear from the people growing our food and fiber. Those conversations help students see agriculture as a vital part of both their daily lives and the future.”
This fall semester marks the twelfth semester of the program at the K-5 level and the third for grades 6-12.
The free program is open to public, private and homeschool educators in Texas. All participating teachers must sign up individually for their classroom.
Student questions are encouraged and can be submitted via the Q&A function on the Zoom platform.
Teachers in grades K-5 will receive free student activity booklets and TEKS-aligned lessons for the monthly virtual visits from September through December.
Grades 6-12 will participate in virtual visits in September and November and receive digital TEKS-aligned lesson plans and other relevant resources.
Sign up closes Aug. 12.
