The second dove hunting season is underway in Texas, and the activity is big business for the Lone Star State’s economy.
State wildlife officials estimate that dove hunting in Texas generates $316 million in economic activity.
In the north and central zones, the second season runs through Jan. 1. It continues through Jan 22 in the south zone. And the second season for the special white wing dove area runs through Jan. 18.
Property locations for day leases and public lands available for hunts can be found online at Texas Parks & Wildlife Department and Texas Dove Hunters Association.
Federal harvest data indicates Texas hunters harvested more than 5 million mourning doves during the 2014 season.
