Wildlife affected by Texas oil spill

The search continues for wildlife affected by the weekend oil spill in the Texas Houston Ship Channel.

As of Wednesday afternoon, 20 birds have been found covered with oil and dead, according to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) Information Specialist Mike Cox. Twelve birds are currently undergoing rehabilitation at a private rehabilitation service field station in Baytown.

Cox noted that TPWD is working with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to search for birds that have been impacted by the oil spill along eastern Galveston Island, Pelican Island and the Bolivar peninsula.

More than 1,200 individuals are involved in the incident response, including more than 900 in the field.
