A final rule on the Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) Herd Certification Program and interstate movement of farmed or captive deer, elk and moose has been recently adopted by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS). It includes changes from the interim final rule that had been in place since June 2012, according to Drovers CattleNetwork.

Citing several reasons, state and local laws and regulations with respect to CWD can be more restrictive than federal regulations under the new rule.

The final rule and background information are available online in the Federal Register.
