In 2022, farmers, ranchers and rural landowners can participate in online and in-person workshops hosted by Texas A&M AgriLife Extension for more information on production agriculture methods, agricultural law, leasing agricultural land, marketing agricultural commodities and more.
Ranchers Leasing Workshop
This workshop is designed for landowners and tenants involved in grazing, hunting and livestock leases.
Topics covered in the half-day program include landowner liability law, accidental injury on leased land, economic resources, budgets and decisions tools.
Each participant will receive a copy of the Ranchers Agricultural Leasing Handbook with sample lease language and lease checklists.
The workshops are scheduled for:
- Feb. 8 in Brenham and
- Sept. 13 in Kerrville.
The Ranchers Leasing Workshop costs $50 per person, and preregistration is required.
An online version of the workshop is also available for $75.
Owning Your Piece of Texas
Many state and federal laws regarding land ownership can be complicated, but AgriLife’s Owning Your Piece of Texas workshop covers key agricultural law issues that may impact landowners, farmers and ranchers. Some of the issues include water law, fence law, landowner liability, special use tax valuation and eminent domain, among others.
The day-long session includes lunch and a hard copy of the Owning Your Piece of Texas: Top Laws Texas Landowners Need to Know handbook.
Dates and locations for the 2022 workshops are:
- Feb. 7 in Conroe,
- March 14 in Fort Worth,
- April 8 in Burnet and
- Sept. 12 in Fredericksburg.
Attendees must register in advance. The workshop is $75 per person.

Generation Next: Our Turn to Ranch
This 12-week, online course helps new landowners develop business plans, understand basic business taxes, investigate insurance needs, track finances, evaluate natural resources, set up wildlife management and grazing leases, land management techniques and other pertinent topics.
The program is aimed at those inheriting land or interested in starting a new agricultural operation on existing ranches.
The series runs Jan. 24-April 17 and is limited to the first 100 registrants. It will require about two hours of participation per week, but each session can be completed individually at any time. At the end of the program, attendees receive a t-shirt and certificate.
The cost is $300. Preregistration is required.
Master Marketer program
Many other virtual and in-person workshops are available on the AgriLife website, including the popular Master Marketer program.
