There’s both good news and bad news when it comes to the drought situation in Texas.
First, the good news: over the past week, the amount of the state suffering from drought conditions has reduced one percent to 47 percent.
Now, the bad news: for the first time in six months, part of Texas is now suffering from exceptional drought.
Part of Central East Texas moved further into the more severe drought category over the past week, according to the latest Water Weekly from the Texas Water Development Board (TWDB).
Most counties in East and Central Texas have established burn bans in an attempt to reduce the number of wildfires across the state.
Only a few counties in the Panhandle have implemented burn bans. The majority of the Coastal Bend remains free of burn bans.
Texans are urged to use caution to prevent fires in dry areas. Tips for reducing the likelihood of a wildfire can be found here: http://tfsweb.tamu.edu/PreventWildfire.
